Bilbao, Spain

Ah, the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao, Spain. My in-laws’ piso is about a 15 minute walk from here and I know this area from before the building of the museum. In fact, one year my wife and I noticed an odd (and somewhat eerie) construction site on the river bank. Was it a new ship yard? Asking my mother-in-law, she was quick to tell us about the new museum that the City of Bilbao had attracted. And hence a City was changed!

This image was taken on a balmy summer evening in 2003 with my (then) 9 year-old son as “assistant.” The film was Kodak 160NC, medium format, drum-scanned and then printed on Fuji Crystal paper. Only the slightest color correction in this photo…what you see here is what my son and I experienced that evening! This image was entered in the Annual Sierra College NCC Student Art Show where it won the Juror’s Award (unjustly, perhaps, beating out some fabulous paintings, sculptures and ceramic works).
